Concept of education

The concept of education is not as simple as most think. You can listen to people talking about it at coffee shops, in passing, or even on the bus, but if that's the only level of understanding you have towards education, you are in no position to judge Malaysia's recent airing of Khairy vs Rafizi debate on PTPTN and, indirectly, Malaysia's education.

To paraphrase a quote in the debate, Ibn Khaldun said education is an investment. But it was just a touch-n-go, so most people wouldn't understand what he meant. The truth is, education can be considered the biggest investment a country can make.

Let's take the nearest country as an example. Singapore's literacy rate is 54th in the world. Their national university, National University of Singapore (NUS), is one of the world's finest. And we can see that their economy is booming. Their whole system is better than most Asian countries. The people's mentality, their economy, hell, even their public transportation system is better than Malaysia's.

How about Indonesia, where their literacy rate is ranked 92nd in the world (Malaysia 90th). I don't even need to elaborate on this, you guys know your perception on Indonesians. Ganyang Malaysia this, riots there. Do I even need to add?

Let's take Norway as an example (9th on the world ranking in terms of education). Their education is in the top 10 of the world. Not to mention they give free education to their people. So everyone is educated. Nobody is left behind, not even the poor ones. With that level of education, the people is able to regulate the economy by themselves without needing much interference from the government.  They are able to understand how business works and follow their instincts to do the right things right. And how does that affect the economy? I know of someone from Norway who worked only one summer and could afford to travel for a year. Their economy is so great their wage rate is extremely high and their exchange rate is amazing (a bottle of mineral water costs RM16 there). In the end, with the people being able to control their economy, which later leads them to have great economy, which leads to higher wage rate, which leads to higher tax revenue, which in the end, makes the country able to support the country's education expenditure.

You see, that's what happens when we don't use brute strength. When we only focus on doing one thing, it will be the only thing that grows. We would oversee other important things that are actually the essentials. In Malaysia, we spend too much on economy and not enough on education. We seek more money but our mind never grows. So in the end we have more money but we don't even know how to use it.

As Ranchoddas Shamaldas Chanchad said, "Pursue excellence, and success will follow, pants down."

Hard to get

Girls are known for their hard to get flirting technique. It's supposed to work by piquing the guy's interest so that they would stand out more and therefore, being more irresistible.

While it does work on guys, it's quite hard for you to guess when is the optimum time to stop the act. Too soon and he loses his interest, too late and he's gonna leave you anyway. Even if you succeed in finding the right time to drop the act, you have to take into account that the person he's attracted to is not the real you. He likes the you who is interesting, and apparently the real you is not. So in the end, the relationship is only waiting for its time to end.

Besides, there are other alternatives to stand out more. Like giving a better head, as an example. That would be very interesting.

Penang Debate Open

PDO was uber fun. I fully let myself go for the first time in years but I didn't get into much trouble. In fact, I made enough new friends to make a new facebook account.

It's also a good twist of luck that I got the chairman position. I've never really had the confidence to adjudicate independently but then when I tried it, I turned out to be quite good. In fact, I was so good that when I spoke, you can hear the sound of girls in the hall getting orgasms [citation needed].

I learned lots of things there. In terms of debate, I learnt lots of new structures and styles that I didn't get to see in earlier tournaments that I've been to. It's not that other tournaments suck, it's just that I wasn't good enough to absorb all the information in those tournaments. Now that I'm improving, let's just hope I can be a better speaker next time around.

In terms of social life, I learned how to socialize with people. I was surprised that I broke the hard-to-penetrate (teehee) social barriers that people built for their institution. I ended up being close with UT Mara, IIUM Gombak, UiTM Jengka, UiTM Kuantan and Sunway University eventhough I hardly knew any of them before this. I ended up having to sleep at 4am every morning because I went to all the rooms and played cards all night long.

Not to mention I found out that I'm freakin' awesome in card games. Either that, I got good hands all the time. Hahaha.

I also found a small "family" where they asked me to call myself as their papa. As menggelikan as it was, I felt kinda honoured to be so welcomed into their family institution though it kinda made me feel old. I'm only 19 (technically)!

I'd like to blab more, but as you can observe from what I wrote above, I'm experiencing writer's block. Maybe next time I'll write better.

Social Protocol:Birthday

Valentine's Day facts are actually false

This post is STOLEN from Obefiend's blog. I can't give you guys a link because, well, it's deleted.

Valentine’s Day "Facts" are Actually Fiction

Did they fact check their articles before publishing?

Every year without fail we will start seeing articles condemning Valentine’s Dayas a day that should not be celebrated by Muslims in Malaysia. One of the most used and rehashed (they rehashed the article annually since god knows when) story is St Valentine was a martyr who died helping the Christians took over Cordoba from the Muslims during Queen Isabella’s reign. Because of his sacrifice the day that he was buried is celebrated as St Valentine’s Day. Because of this Valentine’s Day is "haram" to most Muslims as celebrating it is akin to celebrating the downfall of Muslim empire in Spain. Sounds plausible right? Nope it's WRONG and pure fiction.

First of all there is no St Valentine in Spain during Queen Isabella lifetime (1451 –1504 AD). Infact the only Valentine in Spain history wasthe brother of Saint Fructus, who died stopping the Moorish advance into Spain in 751AD. This is a discrepancy of 700 years between the supposed “Valentine” who helped defeat the Muslims (The Moors) and the St Valentineduring Queen Isabella's reign. Saint Fructus and his brothers' sacrifice are remembered every October 24 ,during the St Fructus Feast Day. So clearly this is not the Valentine that we are looking for.

Throughout Christendom there have been 7 recorded and acknowledged St Valentines and 11 separate Valentine’s Day that occurred on different days throughout the year. THE first Valentine’s Day was in honour of Valentine of Rome (also known as Valentine of Terni) who was a priest who was martyred in 269AD. Not much is known about this St Valentine other than he was a priest who was buried in Via Flaminia on the 14th of February. The lack of background story regarding this first St Valentine leads historians to believe that Valentine’s Day was created to suppress the pagan celebration of Lupercalia, a very ancient, Roman pastoral festival, observed on February 13 through February 15 to avert evil spirits and purify the city, releasing health and fertility. If you haven't already know, early Roman Christians assimilate their pagan celebrations with their Christian beliefs. For example the pagan celebration of sun worshipping on 25th of December is converted into Christmas day despite Jesus actually born on 17th of June! It also should be noted that the early Valentine’s day had nothing to do with love nor romance. This brings us to the modern day’s version of Valentine's day.

It is generally accepted that the modern VDay (ah senang sikit nak taip!) celebration started in the 19th century when a woman by the name of Esther Howland started designing cards for VDays. The celebration started in England before spreading around the world like it is today. In the 1950’s lovers started exchanging more than just cards and the commercialisation of VDay as we know it today started. In the 1980’s DeBeers started linking diamonds with VDays and many men end up broke so that their significant others may have the in vogue diamond VDay gift.

As you can see the modern day VDay is now perverted beyond recognition from it's Christian (or is it Pagan?) origin. I would say that the modern day VDay is not even the same VDay as celebrated in 269AD or Rome for that matter. The date and name might be the same but the one being celebrated now is totally different. Sort of how Christmas and Easter are now considered “not Christian enough" by fundamentalist Christians. In America for instance, Easter is now no longer about the resurrection of Jesus, but about the chocolate Easter bunnies. Christmas in the other hand is about Santa Claus and gifts instead of the day “Jesus was born”.

Thanks to commercialism, alot of the religious celebration is now no more than a day for capitalism to make a quick buck out of them. Only in VDay can you see a man buying roses and chocolates at twice the normal price. Free market can be such a dick come Valentine’s Day!

So why do we keep seeing the factually wrong article in MUSLIM OWNED newspaper when VDay is just days away? I guess this is another case of fictional oral history being passed around for years and years before eventually accepted as fact. The fact that it's repeatedly printed in magazines, newspaper and forwarded emails only reinforce the idea that the story is legit.

"Bai.. gua baca ni dulu dalam majalah Al Islam dan Berita Harian bai. Takkan dia nak tipu so ni mesti fakta sohih ni! Apa je dia dapat dengan menipu"
"Tapi takkan ko tak nampak banyak lobang dalam cerita ni. Takda fakta langsung cuma 2-3 cerita disambung jadi satu.Tarkih pun tak ada padanan"
"Ni la kamu Effi..... termakan dakyah setan! Pergi la sambut kalau nak masuk neraka“
"Kenapa lak aku masuk neraka kalau sambut VDay?”
"Pasal ada hadith - Sesiapa melakukan perbuatan menyerupai sesuatu kaum, maka ia termasuk bersama golongan itu”
"So you are telling me if I celebrate New Year, World Cup , AIDS day, Diabetes Day, Hari Pahlawan, Hari Guru , Hari Persahabatan dan segalanya aku masuk neraka la yek. Macam tu?”
“Ko ni memandai he Effi. Hari yang diilhamkan kaum kafir je haram”
"Abis ko ingat hari-hari yang aku listkan tadi tu siapa yang reka? Graduation day pun kaum kapir yang start dulu. Yang baling Mortar Board Hat masa graduation tu kapir yang start dulu! Masuk neraka la kamu nanti!“

MUAHAHAHAHAH! MUHAHAHAHA!!!

No seriously. Why just Valentine’s Day yang jadi mangsa? Kenapa hari PENCINTA sahaja yang asyik kena belasah? New Year’s Day bagi aku lagi iblis pasal beribu-ribu orang berkumpul dekat KLCC main snow fight. Tahun ni je berapa banyak kes orang bergaduh masa New Year’s Day. Masa VDay takde gaduh-gaduh pun. So why the double standard bitch? If you really want to stop muslims from celebrating this lover's day why can't you use actual facts? Why must we perpetuate fiction as facts? Please stop publishing this rehashed crap year in year out. If you really want to stop muslims from celebrating this day please use a better story based on facts. Better yet release a fatwa!

As usual comments and brickbats below.

Oh in case you are wondering, I never celebrated VDay myself. I refuse to blow out a few hundred bucks more for a good dinner and flowers when 24 hours later I could get the same experience twice as cheap! Me and the Mrs have BIBO DAY instead. It’s the day when we will randomly pick a date where we will meet and spend time together. It’s more special than fucking VDay since it’s OUR SPECIAL CUSTOM MADE celebration!

So there you go, folks. Now stop whining. If you are butthurt because you're foreveralone, then man the fuck up and get a girlfriend/boyfriend.

I've had a steady relationship with my hand for years. That has been working fine.

Insomnia

You know what's the worst thing about not being able to sleep?

It's the thoughts. The things you think about while everyone else is sleeping. You think about your mistakes and how the current you would've handled it. You think about your past successes and remember you're not who you wanted to be.

And then you watch some porn and go to sleep.

I'm back bitches

Let's talk. I don't know what made me feel like writing again, maybe it's just the 4 cigarettes that I smoked out of boredom. Maybe it's the access to internet. Maybe it's me being a whiny bitch.

My friends wonder why I don't get in a relationship at all. Even my friend's friend kept bugging her about why I'm not in a relationship. And apparently it bugs her too, because any person would be pissed off if her roommate keeps asking about her classmate. "Mia, I love you to death, but if you ask me about him one more time, I would love the shit out of you."

Here's why: I don't find the idea of being in a fling interesting. I'd rather be in a relationship with someone I'd marry. Being with somebody I don't really love and having to listen to her bitch about stupid things and tolerate her moodswings while she's having PMS doesn't entice me. Don't get me wrong, people have been telling me that I'm a good listener, mainly because I don't talk much unless when I'm hyperactive. But then they find it necessary to bitch about their problems to me, and apparently making a poker face can be easily misinterpreted as "I'm listening intently."

Besides, it's really hard to find a girl that you can have an intellectual conversation with. I've tried to talk about current issues with girls, but then my dick went on strike because "you're trying to compromise my main function; to have sex."

And I also get bored very easily. There are many times when I call this chick everyday for half a week and then I totally forgot about her. And then when I met her, I'd have to face the awkward "You bizi ke?" talk. No I was not busy, you were just boring.

My type of girl would be quite smart, soft spoken, warm, kinda playful and strong. Like when other girls are screaming when there are leeches on their legs, she's the one who pulls it off. When I'm down, she picks me up. When I'm quiet she tickles me till I cry.

Preferably without a duckface picture on her facebook.
